6 Best Leaf Peeping Spots in SoMN

The beauty of having all four seasons in Minnesota is seeing the leaves turn wonderful shades of red, orange, and yellow before the snow buries us for a few months. Here are, what we believe to be, the 6 best leaf peeping spots in Southern Minnesota.

1. A short drive north to St. Peter will land you at the 628 acre county park known as Seven Mile Creek.

There are many places to enjoy being completely surrounded by fall foliage, including 10-miles of multi-use trails. Make sure to stop by the scenic overlook while you’re there for the best views the park has to offer.

2. At Bluff Park in North Mankato, you’ll find a trail leading you through an old-growth forest of maple trees, perfect for a fall stroll. A new overlook deck offers amazing views of Hiniker Pond.

3. Lookout Drive Scenic Overlook offers great views of the Minnesota River and Sibley Park (which could also could be a good leaf spot). A geological marker will provide a little history lesson while experiencing the spectacular views the overlook has to offer.

4. We recently talked about Minneopa in our Visit Mankato Blog, but this State Park is worth mentioning again for the leaf peeping opportunities.

5. The concrete gravity dam located in the Rapidan Township doesn’t sound like it would be a good leaf spot, but you would be surprised. Step out on the bridge over the river to see the dam and an endless sight of beautiful fall trees lining the river. There is also a campground and café out there too that are both worth checking out.

6. We would be silly not to mention our own Arch + Cable rooms. With giant windows in every room, there isn’t a bad view any time of the year. Fall views are especially unique from the higher elevation of these fourth floor rooms. Whether you’re facing the hillside or the river, there is an abundance of beautiful color changing trees to admire.

Although we won’t be open until November of this year, and likely already moved on to the snowy season, is it ever too early to plan for next year? Our answer is no. In fact, you can book your room now to start your 2024 fall leaf peeping tour at Arch + Cable and map out the other five great leaf spots in Southern Minnesota.
