Behind every meaningful hospitality experience is a belief in people, the idea that spaces, when thoughtfully created, can bring comfort, connection, and community. For Dr. Julene Nolan , that belief has shaped both her professional career and her work as a co-owner of Arch + Cable Hotel and Hotel Alexander . A licensed psychologist, educator, and entrepreneur, Dr. Nolan has dedicated much of her career to supporting the emotional well-being and development of young people and families. Her work in psychology has centered on helping students, educators, and parents better understand the complex social and emotional needs of children growing up in today’s world. But her commitment to community does not stop in classrooms or counseling settings; it extends into the spaces where people gather, travel, and connect.

Dr. Nolan is a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist whose work has focused on student mental health, behavioral support, and social-emotional learning. Through her professional practice and leadership in school psychology, she has worked with educators, families, and schools to help young people navigate challenges and build resilience. She has also shared her expertise through teaching, research, and writing, including contributing to work focused on adolescent development and the real-world challenges young people face today. Her career reflects a deep belief that understanding how people grow, learn, and connect is essential to building stronger communities. That same perspective is part of what led Dr. Nolan to become a co-founder of Hospitality Ventures , the women-owned company behind Arch + Cable and Hotel Alexander. Together with her partners, she helped envision boutique hospitality experiences that would contribute to the vibrancy of downtown Mankato while offering visitors something distinctive and memorable. These hotels were designed not simply as places to stay, but as spaces where thoughtful design, community connection, and authentic hospitality intersect. The projects reflect a shared vision: creating environments that celebrate the character of the community while welcoming guests with warmth and intention.

Dr. Nolan’s work both professionally and entrepreneurially reflects a common thread: investing in people. Whether supporting students and families through psychology or helping develop spaces that welcome travelers to the region, she approaches her work with a deep appreciation for how environments shape human experience. Her leadership in hospitality brings a unique perspective, one rooted in empathy, understanding, and the importance of connection. During International Women’s Month, Dr. Nolan’s story highlights the diverse paths women take to leadership. Her career demonstrates how expertise in one field, in her case, psychology and education, can influence and enrich entirely different industries. At Arch + Cable and Hotel Alexander, that influence is felt in the intentionality behind the guest experience: spaces designed with care, hospitality rooted in warmth, and a belief that meaningful environments make lasting impressions. Her work reminds us that leadership often begins with a simple idea, creating places and opportunities that support people in meaningful ways. And through that work, Dr. Julene Nolan continues to help shape experiences that connect guests, community, and hospitality in thoughtful and lasting ways.
